The 315-mile Hudson River runs mainly through New York, forms part of the border between New York and New Jersey, and via its being united with the Erie Canal to the north, provides a link from the Great Lakes to the Atlantic Ocean. The river is named after famous explorer Henry Hudson, and its major tributary is the Mohawk River. Notable cities along the Hudson include New York City, Albany, Yonkers, Jersey City and Hoboken. The Hudson River is often called “America’s Rhine” because of the Hudson River Valley’s natural beauty.
